Defeater is a concept hardcore band from Boston, Massachusetts. They have released two full length albums and two EPs. All of their albums follow a continuous story of the troubles of a working-class family from New Jersey in a post WWII era. Naturally with this their songs are not uplifting, yet have a beauty about them in a sad sense. Very deep metaphorical music about social issues from a certain era that still remain relevant to this day despite very different times. This band's first full length "Travels" is superb along with the EP "Lost Ground." The newer release "Empty Days & Sleepless Nights" seemed to fall short of their previous material although it is still not a bad release. It was quite a unique release too with the second half of the album being acoustic. Defeater has shown great diversity and if they maintain will certainly go down as an example in the hardcore scene.
